Martin Luther King, Jr.

The courthouse, and the U.S. Attorney's Office, will be closed on Monday, Jan. 16, 2006, in commemoration of the birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Tuesday's Schedule

Kansas City:
  • Michael Dale (KCMO), indicted for distributing crack cocaine, change of plea at 1:30 p.m. in Courtroom 7B

Springfield:

  • Toulavanh Phanithasack (Ozark, MO), who pled guilty to conspiracy to distribute meth, will be sentenced at 9 a.m. in Courtroom 1
  • Dennis K. Mingucci (El Dorado Springs, MO) will be sentenced at 10 a.m. in Courtroom 1

Murder trial continuance

A joint motion from the government and the defense was filed today requesting a continuance in the capital trial for John P. Street (KCMO), in order to allow time for additional DNA testing.

  • Robert Voepel (Columbia, MO), indicted for being a felon in possession of a firearm, change of plea at 11:30 a.m.
  • Nicole Scott, who pled guilty to product tampering (replacing infant formula with flour then returning the product to the store for a refund) will be sentenced at 2 p.m.

Webb City arson plea

A change of plea hearing has been scheduled for Keith McBride (Webb City, MO), who was indicted for destroying his business, Coin Op, in an arson fire. The hearing will be at 9 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, in Courtroom 1 at the federal courthouse in Springfield.

Lisa Montgomery trial

The U.S. Attorney's Office filed a motion today asking the court to deny the defense request to contiue the trial of Lisa Montgomery to February 2007.

Cyanide trial delayed

The federal trial for Hessam S. Ghane (Independence, MO), who was indicted for being in possession of potassium cyanide, has been continued indefinitely. Ghane, a chemist who was formerly employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and taught chemistry at Maple Woods Community College, was indicted on May 16, 2003.

  • Eddie W. Smith (KCMO), indicted for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, trial begins at 8:30 a.m. in Courtroom 7C
  • Richard T. Martino (New York), who pled guilty to a nearly $9 million conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, will be sentenced at 10 a.m. in Courtroom 7B
